Strangers

I recently came across the song “Wayfaring Stranger”. I remember listening to this song a while back: but this time, this particular song struck a chord in me that was impossible to ignore.

(This video by Simon Khorolskiy is an amazing version of this song.)

I was reminded of the truth that we’re not part of this world. We live in it, but we are not of it.

It’s a simple truth that we know as followers of Christ, but that is so easily forgotten or pushed to the background of our busy lives.

We are all “wayfaring strangers” in this world.

We’re children of God heading toward our home above, a reality so much more glorious than the one we are experiencing right now.

Our job in this broken world is to glorify God and point others to Him. This earth is not our home. This earth is not our destination. We are here for a purpose–but we are not here forever. We are here to accomplish what God has sent us here to finish: but that is not our end.

We are heading home–to our home with God beyond the Jordan.

So, my dear friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, I challenge you to live in such a way that what you do–all you do–in this world counts for eternity. Make your life on this earth count for God, His Kingdom, and Heaven–for all eternity. We’re strangers here, but we are here to make a difference and to call the lost to repentance and salvation through Christ Jesus.

We are strangers, yes, but we are strangers here for a purpose.

His purpose.

Live like it matters. Because…it does.

P.S…

(The lyrics to the song: there are many versions out there, but this version is somewhat more complete.)

Wayfaring Stranger

Vs. 1: I am a poor wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world of woe
There is no sickness, toil nor danger
In that fair land to which I go

Vs. 2: I know dark clouds will hover o’er me
I know my pathway is rough and steep
But golden fields lie out before me
Where weary eyes no more will weep

Vs. 3: I’ll soon be free from every trial
This form shall rest beneath the sod
I’ll drop the cross of self-denial
And enter in that home with God

Chorus: I’m goin’ home to see my Savior
I’m goin’ home, no more to roam
I am just goin’ over Jordan
I am just goin’ over home
